Counselling is a process that focuses on the psychological well-being of an individual, facilitating personal growth, development and self-understanding to empower the individual to adopt more constructive life practices, by enabling the individual to come to terms with past or present reality, difficulties and concerns.

Although the specific counselling process depends on individual counsellors, clients and issues involved, the general counselling process will follow:

  2. Identification of core issues
  3. Case formulation
  4. Setting goals for the therapeutic process
  5. Implementation of the intervention
  6. Evaluation of the intervention
  7. Closure
